🎧 The Hearing Protection Act — Common Sense for Shooters
October is Protect Your Hearing Month, so let’s talk about the Hearing Protection Act (S.364 / H.R.404) — the bill that would finally remove suppressors from the NFA and treat them like any other firearm accessory.
The tax on suppressors was dropped to $0 last year, but the red tape, registry, and long ATF wait remain. Supporters say removing suppressors from the NFA would:
- Make shooting safer for hearing and reduce noise pollution
- Free up ATF resources to focus on actual violent crime
- End pointless delays for one of the lowest-crime-rate items in the gun world
🗽 Especially Bad in New York
New York shooters get it even worse — not only are suppressors banned, but the NY SAFE Act also restricts threaded barrels, making most modern handguns illegal even if suppressors were allowed. It’s a double hit against safety and practicality.
💬 What Do You Think?
Should suppressors be treated like other accessories?
Does the current law actually make anyone safer — or just punish responsible owners?
Check if your reps support it:
Protecting your hearing shouldn’t require a tax stamp, a registry, and a ban on threaded barrels.
