I got my Nassau.county carry conceal permit 6/23 where I live . that process for a diff day
heard about the special carry in the city and the new requirements as I cant go anywhere off the island without passing through the city.
I applied 12/23/23 all uploaded and paid for ( I had all the documents from the Nassau permit readily available!
1/11/2024 notice of payment processed
no movement and no contact until ....
4/5/2024 notice of more and repeat documents needed and date of 4/29/2024 to to be fingerprinted at 1PP
uploaded the necessary documents to portal and and as well to personal email of officer who reached out with no response asking if they received or that everything is in order for 4/29. also received the interview questions. straight forward answers as I have a squeaky clean past !
4/29 got there to !PP early and they fingerprinted me and told me to wait for interviewer/officer to come and talk to me, waited about 30 min and the officer came out telling me they needed the drivers license of my safeguard ( they had all his id's being retired law enforcement including hr218.
came home uploaded and my application went from submitted to investigation as promised by officer at fingerprinting
5/28/2024 received call voicemail and email from a detective assuming he was my investigator needing a copy of my county permit and driver license abstract ( we know that I cant even have my payment processed without having ALL the documents uploaded ) plus the day of fingerprinting the drivers license of my safeguard was the only thing needed. I know it is frustrating to send again but it took 4 minutes and I sent it to his email and to the portal as well with a follow up email indicating this was completed
detective responded immediately thanking for sending so efficiently and he stated he is marking my application as complete and sending my application to supervisor for approval
I responded and asked for ballpark time it takes from here , his response not sure we are backlogged
5/30/24 went to approved online
6/2/24 sent email to detective stating which two firearms I wanted from my county permit (4 on there) to the special carry ( he didnt ask I initiated this step) they asked for copy of license AGAIN and photo of two firearms I wanted in special carry! sent immediately
6/3/24 found out the area on the top right of portal under my licenses to see further status and it was issue pending !
6/7/24 checked again and under my license it was ACTIVE with date of expiration
06/13/24 in the mail in handwritten envelope from state of NY and simple one line on paper here is you license is my SPECIAL CARRY for NYC
so just about 6 moths to the day it was processed for payment
hopefully this allows hope and positivity to those going thru and to those debating on starting the process.
I cannot speak to diff permits or to the purchase of firearms that I hear are all over the place wiht respect to time and communication .
there was no magic or threats I just did as I was told and sent what they asked for and thanked them at each stage.

recenlty when the rule changed for more than two allowed i emailed the department and included the pistols (photos of the gun with serial numbers evident and the copy of my local permit showing the same firearms ) then recieved in about 10 days the new updated permit listing all my firearms ... i think there is now a portal to do even more efficiently
just applied for out of state ct about month in with no coomunicaton which is from what i hear good ting that my figerptints from pete and the necessasry doumentaiton from pete was acceptable
