I had my CCW interview with the Fresno Police Department on December 2nd, and I wanted to share what the experience was like for anyone applying through Fresno, California. The entire interaction was far more straightforward and respectful than I expected. The investigator handling my interview was completely fair, a total gentleman, and made the whole process feel easy and professional from start to finish.
The conversation worked almost like a verbal confirmation of everything already submitted. The investigator walked through my background, checking on my residential history, prior contacts with law enforcement, arrests, drug use, medication and general life stability. There was no adversarial tone at any point. He wasn’t grilling, and wasn’t trying to pick apart details. Instead, he made space for context and treated every part of the discussion with respect. He also spent time reviewing my professional history and general personal conduct.
When we moved into the CCW portion, he confirmed that all of my required documents were already received and in order. The only remaining step was the background check, which he explained clearly, including why it can sometimes take a while. He also reviewed a few California-specific regulations and pointed out the differences between how Fresno approaches CCW permits compared to places like Los Angeles. He shared what to expect with renewals, especially given the changes coming next September that will require an additional Live Scan fingerprinting as part of the renewal process. The permit itself is valid for two years, and he recommended planning renewal timelines ahead of time.
From beginning to end it was clear, organized, and handled with professionalism. By the time it ended, I knew exactly what the next steps were and what to expect moving forward. If anyone is applying for a CCW through Fresno PD, my experience was that the process is fair, respectful, and straightforward.
