Here was email #1 sent after waiting 5 months and 2 weeks:
Re: Application # (insert App Number)
Dear Licensing Division,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to follow up on the status of my concealed carry weapon (Special Carry) license application, which I submitted on March 11, 2025, in accordance with New York Penal Law Article 400. On June 11, 2025, I completed both my interview and fingerprinting, and I also promptly re-uploaded requested documents that had been included with my original application. As I approach the six-month mark on September 11th from my filing date, I wanted to check in on the progress of my application. If there is anything further you require from me, whether additional documentation or clarification, I will gladly provide it right away.
Thank you very much for your time, assistance, and the work you do in processing these applications. I look forward to your response.
Name
I received a boiler plate response after a week. On September 18, 2025, I sent the second email:
Dear Deputy Chief Bogle,
I am writing to request a status update on my Special Carry application XXXXXX. I submitted my application on March 11, 2025, completed my interview and fingerprints on June 11, 2025, and promptly re-uploaded all requested documents. On September 11, 2025, I received an email confirmation that an investigator had been assigned. As of today, September 18, 2025, I have not been contacted by the investigator. This is now beyond the six-month mark from my original submission date. I have checked my email inbox, spam and junk folders, and voicemail messages regularly to ensure I have not missed any outreach. Please confirm the current stage of my application, provide the name and contact information for the assigned investigator, and clarify the expected next steps and timeline for a decision.
If I do not receive a timely update or see forward movement on my application, I am prepared to hire legal counsel and pursue an Article 78 proceeding to compel action. My preference is to resolve this matter directly and amicably with your office, without the need for formal legal steps.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
My Name
My 3rd email:
Dear Deputy Chief Bogle,
I am following up again regarding my Special Carry application #XXXXXXX. I submitted my application on March 11, 2025, which was now more than six and a half months ago. I completed my interview and fingerprints on June 11, 2025, and re-uploaded all requested documents the same day it was requested. On September 11, 2025, I received confirmation that an investigator had been assigned. Today is September 30, 2025, yet I still have not been contacted by the investigator, nor have I received any update from your office.
At this point, the processing time has exceeded 6 months since my submission, which is beyond the reasonable period outlined for application review. I have taken every step required in good faith, monitored all communication channels diligently, and remained patient throughout the process. I ask that you provide a clear update on the current stage of my application, the name and contact information of the assigned investigator, and a specific timeline for when I can expect a final decision. If I do not receive a substantive update, I will have no choice but to engage legal counsel and pursuing an Article 78 proceeding to compel timely action.
I remain hopeful this matter can be resolved directly and without the need for legal intervention. Thank you for your prompt attention to this long-pending application.
A few days later the website indicated i was approved and i received my permit in the mail about 8 days later.
I hope this helps.
